Critic and curatorial residency program from Nice

Stay of Asli Seven in June 2021 (subject to the evolution of the pandemic)

ACROSS #29 – June 2021

Asli Seven (born in 1981, Turkey) is an independent curator and writer based between Istanbul and Paris.

Her current research and curatorial projects focus on infrastructural and intangible forms of violence embodied within landscape and built environment, with an emphasis on fieldwork, ficto-criticism and collaborative artistic processes. In 2020-21 she is the recipient of CNAP and Cité des Arts grant and residency for curators in Paris. She is a member of AICA and a collaborator with Independent Curators International (ICI).

Since 2019, she has been experimenting with speculative fiction and more generally critical fiction to imagine curating as a “textile” practice, generating new stories and links, in particular through a short novel entitled “Tropical Cargo”, the publication of which is scheduled for autumn 2021. For her Across residency, she proposes to activate a few chapters of this semi-fictional narrative through a reading accompanied by the screening of artist’s films appearing in the novella, and to conduct on-site research around the vestiges of colonial botany and the ‘becoming plant’ of forms of political resistance.
