A SPACE FOR TRANSLATION

During her residence in Nice, Emily Butler proposes to set up a translation bureau. Over the course of three days artists, art professionals and passersby are invited to present their linguistic projects, translations, any research (be it conceptual or physical) around notions of transformation, transposition, adaptation…

These one-on-one meetings, to be held in French or in English, are also an opportunity to discuss Emily Butler’s curatorial work, questions about the production and dissemination of contemporary art in the U.K., or to collaborate on the translation of a short text.

A Space for Translation will allow Emily Butler to meet with members of the regional cultural community, while making herself available to the general public, thus playing the role of someone “who listens”, setting up conditions conducive to the mutual sharing of words, concepts and ideas.
